A tragic two-vehicle collision in the Hunter Region has claimed the life of a 77-year-old woman and left five other people requiring hospital treatment.
Details of the Salamander Bay Crash
The serious accident occurred on Nelson Bay Road in Salamander Bay at approximately 7:25pm on Saturday evening. According to New South Wales Police, a Toyota Rav4 and a Subaru Forester were involved in the crash.
The driver of the Toyota, a 77-year-old woman, died at the scene. Her three passengers, all elderly, were treated by paramedics before being transported to hospital. The group included a 78-year-old man, a 79-year-old man, and a 76-year-old woman. All were taken to John Hunter Hospital in stable conditions.
Police Investigation Underway
The occupants of the Subaru Forester, a 66-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman, were also conveyed to John Hunter Hospital in stable conditions following the collision.
Officers from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District secured the location as a crime scene. The site was then forensically examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit. As is standard procedure following a fatal incident, a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Appeal for Information
NSW Police have urged anyone with information about the crash, who may have witnessed the events or have dashcam footage from the area around the time, to come forward and contact investigators.
