A Chinese national has been sentenced to prison following a horrific car meet accident in Perth that left a teenage girl fighting for her life. The incident, which occurred outside Crown Casino in Burswood, has highlighted the dangers of reckless driving at such gatherings.

Chun Lai Yuen, aged 25, was driving a Honda Civic at more than double the speed limit when he struck pedestrian Caitlyn Dickson, 17. The collision happened on Camfield Drive just before 10pm on July 14, as Dickson was attempting to cross the road on foot. The force of the impact threw her metres into the air, resulting in severe injuries.

In the Perth Magistrates Court, Yuen pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm. He was sentenced to one year and four months behind bars, with eligibility for parole after serving eight months.
