Elixir Revived: The Sexy Circus Science Show Returns to Fringe World Perth
If you're searching for an unforgettable night out during this year's Fringe World festival in Perth, look no further than Elixir Revived. This acclaimed production from Head First Acrobats has made a triumphant return to the city, promising audiences a spectacular blend of athleticism, comedy, and narrative-driven entertainment.
A Captivating Fusion of Circus and Science
Described as Cirque Du Soleil meets Magic Mike, Elixir Revived delivers jaw-dropping stunts, chiselled abs, and raunchy humour in equal measure. The show is a remake of the company's very first award-winning production, following the chaotic adventures of four scientists attempting to create the elusive elixir of life.
Working for an authoritarian pharmaceutical corporation, these characters are compelled to test their experimental concoctions on themselves. The resulting mayhem unfolds as a captivating blend of physical comedy and extraordinary athletic prowess, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats throughout the performance.
Behind the Scenes with Acrobat Thomas Gorham
Co-founder, breakdancer, and internationally acclaimed acrobat Thomas Gorham enthusiastically recommends Elixir Revived to fans of both comedy and acrobatics. "It's very humorous and very silly and highly narrative in structure," Gorham explains. "There's a clear storyline from start to finish, and all the skits play out like a sitcom."
Audiences can anticipate an impressive array of high-level circus skills, including:
- Head balancing tricks performed by Gorham himself
- Acrobatic straps routines
- Dynamic teeter board (seesaw) acts
- Free-standing ladder performances from fellow National Institute of Circus Arts graduates
"There's a lot of high-level tricks in the show," Gorham teases, hinting at the spectacular displays awaiting festival-goers.
Perth: The Birthplace of Success
Originally from Australia's East Coast, Gorham expresses genuine excitement about returning to Perth for a month-long season following last year's sold-out shows. "I feel like the Perth fringe is kind of the birthplace of our company," he reflects. "It's one of the first places that we started to do really well and started to gain a bit of an audience."
The acrobat speaks glowingly about Perth during festival season, particularly the vibrant Northbridge area. "I see Perth in the most spectacular time of year, especially the Northbridge area, it's amazing, like all the different shows that are on, and all the different activities to do, and the nightlife's incredible, and the food's amazing," he enthuses. "I think Perth is nailing it."
A Festival Favourite with Global Ambitions
With performances scheduled until February 15, Gorham believes Perth audiences need little encouragement to experience the creative hub of Fringe World. "They're all around it like they've got this wonderful festival that brings incredible acts from all over the world to come and do a whole month of shows in Northbridge," he observes.
"And I think the reason that we're able to come is that the Perth people are already out supporting it. So just want to say thank you to them, and if you're not a part of that group, I guess you're kind of missing out."
Gorham's personal journey into circus life has been deeply rewarding. "I think it's just a really great lifestyle," he shares. "I mean, it's a lot of hard work, travelling around the world and doing all kinds of shows, but there's nothing that quite gives you the same feeling as being in front of a crowd and doing something that you love. Why would you want to do anything else if you could show off your talents every night and make people feel amazing just from watching you do a show."
Beyond Perth: A National and International Tour
Following their Perth engagement, Head First Acrobats will take their talents to Adelaide Fringe and the Melbourne Comedy Festival before embarking on an international journey to perform a different production on London's prestigious West End.
Since their debut in 2015, Head First Acrobats have established themselves as Fringe World Perth favourites through their knockout circus performances and raucous comedy. The company has evolved into one of the festival's annual staples and highlights, consistently drawing enthusiastic crowds with their unique brand of entertainment.
Elixir Revived represents not just a show, but a celebration of artistic dedication, physical excellence, and the vibrant cultural landscape that makes Perth's Fringe World festival a must-attend event for entertainment seekers.
