Park Waves Festival Axed: Australian Tour Cancelled Just Two Months Out
Park Waves Festival Cancelled, Australian Tour Scrapped

Australia's heavy music scene has been dealt a significant blow with the sudden cancellation of the inaugural Park Waves Festival, wiping out a major national tour set to begin in just two months.

A Dream Deferred: The Festival's Abrupt End

Tour promoters Destroy All Lines confirmed the devastating news in a statement released on Tuesday, pointing to a "combination of challenges" that ultimately made the event financially unviable. The festival was slated to launch in Perth on February 14, featuring a powerhouse lineup of Australian heavyweights including Parkway Drive, The Amity Affliction, Story of the Year, Northlane, and Alpha Wolf.

"Ultimately, the numbers no longer stack up. With a heavy heart, we've had to make a difficult decision. We've tried everything. We're gutted," the promoter's statement read, acknowledging the inevitable disappointment of fans across the country.

"A Kick in the Guts": Industry-Wide Pressures Bite

For Byron Bay metalcore giants Parkway Drive, who have successfully run the Park Waves event in Europe, the Australian cancellation is a particularly bitter pill to swallow. The band described the news as feeling "like a kick in the guts," directly blaming the relentless financial pressures facing the entertainment sector.

"Another festival being crushed by the rising costs across our entertainment industry. It hurts to be another casualty in this chapter of the Australian music scene," the band stated. They revealed that every possible avenue was explored to salvage the tour, but "the reality of the circumstances won't allow for it."

Refunds and the Ripple Effect

The cancellation affects a sprawling tour schedule that was to visit capital cities and major regional centres. Fans who had purchased tickets for any of the following stops will receive automatic refunds for their tickets and booking fees:

  • Perth
  • Adelaide
  • Geelong
  • Bendigo
  • Scoresby
  • Wollongong
  • Eastern Creek
  • Maitland
  • Toowoomba
  • Byron Bay
  • Sandstone Point

Destroy All Lines has advised that refund information will be sent directly to the inbox of all ticket holders. The collapse of Park Waves adds to a growing list of Australian music festivals and tours that have been scrapped in recent times, highlighting the severe economic challenges plaguing the live music industry.
