UK House Music Legend Michael Gray Announces Debut Perth Performance in Fremantle
Michael Gray Makes WA Debut with Fremantle Gig

House music enthusiasts across Western Australia have a major reason to celebrate this autumn, with a celebrated British producer confirming his inaugural performance in Perth. Michael Gray, the acclaimed DJ from Croydon in London, is set to make his WA debut with a significant gig in the port city of Fremantle.

A Global Hit Maker Arrives Down Under

Michael Gray rose to international prominence with his 2004 dance floor anthem The Weekend. The high-energy track achieved widespread acclaim, climbing to number fourteen on the ARIA charts and securing a Top 10 position in his native United Kingdom. More than two decades later, Gray's passion for crafting house music remains undiminished.

"I just love the buzz of making a record in the studio and then playing it out and watching a really good reaction," the DJ exclusively told PerthNow. "I only make records for the dancefloor, I don't make records for the radio per se but if they do end up on the radio, that's just a bonus."

An Exciting First for Western Australia

While Gray has visited Australia previously, his March 2026 appearance marks his very first performance on the west coast, a milestone he eagerly anticipates. "I'm really pumped about coming to Oz," he expressed. "I have been to Australia before, albeit probably about 15 years ago, in fact maybe even 20 years ago, so this makes this very exciting. I'm looking forward to seeing Sydney and Melbourne again, but this is the first time I have ever come to Perth and I can't wait."

Joining Forces with Perth's Own House Music Icon

The UK artist will not be performing alone. He will be joined on stage by Western Australia's very own Dr Packer, a legendary figure who has been a cornerstone of Perth's house music scene since the 1980s. Gray praised the local talent, noting their strong collaborative relationship.

"Working with Dr Packer has been unreal — we work very well together and it goes to show the talent you have in Perth," Gray said. "We've never worked in the same studio at the same time, so he will start off a project and then I will finish it, then I'll send it back to him to check and vice versa. But nowadays with technology, we can both work in separate studios from the other side of the world. He has very, very similar taste to me."

A Powerhouse Trio Takes the Stage

Adding to the stellar lineup is producer powerhouse Francois K, a former Studio 54 DJ renowned globally for his remix work with iconic artists like Diana Ross, U2, and Coldplay. This trio of musical talent promises an unforgettable experience for attendees.

The collaborative performance is scheduled for Sunday, March 1, at the Freo Social venue. The event forms part of the celebrations for the 10th Birthday of Dancing in Space. The venue will feature a unique 360-degree stage setup and live visual projections throughout the performances, enhancing the immersive atmosphere.

This debut performance by Michael Gray in Western Australia represents a significant moment for the local electronic music community, connecting international house music legacy with Perth's vibrant homegrown scene.
