Fundraising Concert Announced for Musician Greg Bryce Following Stabbing
Musician Greg Bryce is showing remarkable progress after undergoing surgery for multiple stab wounds sustained last Sunday evening. In a heartwarming display of community support, a fundraising concert has been launched to aid his recovery journey.
Positive Health Update from Close Friend
Grant Walmsley, a founding member of The Screaming Jets and a close friend of Bryce, provided an encouraging update on his condition. "Greg has responded incredibly well to surgery and treatment this week," Walmsley stated. "He is looking better each day and remains centred and full of empathy and compassion, such is the pure heart of this dear man." Walmsley added that Bryce is healing and resting, while also feeling overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from fans and the community.
Concert Details and Financial Support
The fundraising event is scheduled for May 24, with several bands already confirmed to perform. The venue will be announced shortly. Bryce's manager, Yianni Moratidis, explained the purpose of the concert, noting that it is uncertain how long Bryce will be unable to perform. "He's a man who has given so much to the industry and people in need," Moratidis said. "It's going to be a long road, not just physically but mentally. This is to show we've got your back." The proceeds from the concert will go directly to Bryce to help cover financial needs during his recovery.
Community Response and Gratitude
Walmsley emphasised the strong community spirit in Newcastle, highlighting how the town rallies together in times of need. "This is how this town comes together," he remarked. "This is who we are. And this time, it's to assist our Greg and help financially, to allow him to recover and get through this tough chapter." Bryce and his family have expressed heartfelt gratitude for the care and support shown, with Walmsley promising an amazing day of peace, love, and rock 'n' roll at the event.
Incident Background and Legal Proceedings
The stabbing occurred after a gig at Club Merewether on Sunday evening, where Bryce was attacked from behind near the bowling club entrance. He sustained five stab wounds and has been recovering at John Hunter Hospital. Yury Skrynnik, 53, has been charged with attempted murder and contravening an apprehended violence order (AVO). Police allege that Skrynnik's former partner was in a domestic relationship with Bryce at the time of the attack, and an AVO was in place.
