Kiama Show Celebrates 178th Year with Sunny Skies and Community Spirit
The historic Kiama Show returned for its 178th edition over the weekend, drawing exhibitors and visitors to the picturesque Kiama Showground overlooking the water. The event was blessed with sunny weather, creating a perfect backdrop for a day of community celebration and local pride.
Showcasing Local Talent and Produce
Kiama Show Society president Guy Stearn reported that the show pavilion featured more than 2800 entries on display. "We've got a number of local artisan producers, makers, growers, all in the local and homegrown hubs selling their products and essentially running some demonstrations for the people to watch," Mr Stearn said on Saturday. The event highlighted the region's agricultural and creative talents, with a strong focus on homegrown goods and handmade crafts.
Family Fun and Entertainment
Attendees enjoyed a wide range of activities designed for all ages. A petting zoo was set up near Chitwick Oval, providing interactive experiences for children, while rides and amusements added to the festive atmosphere. The show also featured several unique races that brought excitement and laughter to the grounds.
- Billycart races tested speed and skill on custom-built carts.
- Hobby horse races added a whimsical touch with participants galloping on stick horses.
- Lawnmower races offered a quirky twist, showcasing modified mowers in competitive sprints.
A Spectacular Finale
The fun-filled day concluded with a bang as a fireworks display lit up the night sky, providing a dazzling end to the celebrations. This traditional finale has become a beloved part of the Kiama Show experience, symbolising the community's enduring spirit and commitment to preserving local traditions.
The 178th Kiama Show successfully blended heritage with modern entertainment, reinforcing its status as a cornerstone event in the Illawarra region's calendar. With strong attendance and enthusiastic participation, it demonstrated the ongoing appeal of community-focused gatherings in bringing people together.
