Young people across Perth are being encouraged to kick off their summer holidays with a vibrant, free community event in the port city's south. The inaugural East Fremantle Street Jam will transform the local community park into a hub of activity, creativity and connection.
What's On at the East Fremantle Street Jam
The event is scheduled for Saturday, January 10, and will run from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the East Fremantle Community Park, with a focus on the skate zone. Organisers have planned a diverse lineup of free activities designed to entertain and engage youth aged six and above.
A highlight for action sports enthusiasts will be the free coaching sessions delivered by Freestyle Now. Running from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, these sessions are open to scooter, skateboard and BMX riders. Bookings are essential and can be made via Eventbrite by searching for "East Fremantle Skatepark Coaching Session". Participants must be supervised by an adult.
Creative Fun and Community Support
Beyond the ramps, the Street Jam will offer a variety of other attractions. These include face-painting and a creative workshop hosted by Art Jam. Giant games will be available from the youth trailers provided by the Cities of Melville and Fremantle.
Recognising the importance of mental wellbeing, representatives from headspace Fremantle will be on-site. They will be available for informal chats about the support services available for people aged 12 to 25.
To keep energy levels high, the East Fremantle Lions Club will host a complimentary sausage sizzle between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM, with a limit of one per person while supplies last.
A Safe and Welcoming Space for Youth
The Town of East Fremantle has emphasised that this is a family-friendly, alcohol and drug free event. Mayor Tony Natale said the Street Jam is a new initiative focused on providing a positive environment for the community's young people.
"The East Fremantle Street Jam is a new event that is all about creating a fun, safe and welcoming space where young people can connect, be active and feel supported," Mayor Natale stated. "We thank the cities of Fremantle and Melville for their support and are excited to see our communities come together for an afternoon of creativity, skating and music."
The event also serves as an opportunity for the council to gather feedback. Mayor Natale noted the town is keen to hear directly from youth about future event ideas. Young attendees can share their thoughts during the Art Jam workshop or by completing a short survey on the day.
