The City of Canning is preparing to launch 2026 with a vibrant and free community celebration along the picturesque Shelley Beach Foreshore. The annual New Year's Day concert and fireworks display is scheduled for Thursday, 1 January 2026, promising an afternoon and evening of entertainment for all ages.
Protecting the Foreshore's New Greenery
Due to the event's growing popularity, the council is taking special measures to protect a sensitive environmental area. A major Commonwealth-funded revegetation project at the adjacent Rob Bruce Park has prompted the city to install temporary, lightweight barricades around the most vulnerable zones.
This decision was discussed at the council meeting on 16 December. Director of Infrastructure and Environment, Warren Bow, outlined a multi-pronged approach. "We will install temporary fencing or barricades around the most vulnerable revegetated zones opposite Rob Bruce Park," he stated.
The strategy also includes pre-event social media campaigns to foster public awareness and buy-in. Rangers and staff will be present to patrol the area, gently redirecting attendees and educating them on the need to protect the new plants from being trampled.
A Full Afternoon of Entertainment and Family Fun
The gates officially open at 3:30pm, with staged performances running throughout the afternoon and into the early evening. The event will culminate in a colourful fireworks display at 8pm over the Canning River, with the Perth skyline providing a stunning backdrop.
Headline act Daren Reid and the Soul City Groove will bring their high-energy soul and groove sounds to the main stage from 6pm. The full line-up of community artists and live performers is available on the event's official website.
Families can enjoy a range of free children's entertainment and activities running concurrently with the music. A variety of food trucks will be on site, offering meals and refreshments throughout the event.
Community Spirit in a Picturesque Setting
Canning Mayor Patrick Hall emphasised the event's importance on the community calendar, attracting families from across the city and neighbouring suburbs. "The New Year's Day concert and fireworks offers something special for everyone and is a wonderful way for our community to come together on the first day of the year," Mayor Hall said.
"Shelley Foreshore is a beautiful location and we're looking forward to creating another memorable celebration for residents to enjoy."
Planning Your Visit
To ensure a smooth experience, the city encourages visitors to plan their travel. Parking is available at Centenary Park, with shuttle buses ferrying people to the foreshore. Carpooling and public transport are recommended.
Key roads will be closed from 1:30pm to 9pm, with a new event exit plan directing traffic onto Leach Highway. The foreshore pathways and main viewing areas are accessible for wheelchairs, prams, and mobility aids.
