Voyager's Danny Estrin sells Perth home where Eurovision hits born

The most charismatic man in showbiz — Voyager frontman and Eurovision co-host Danny Estrin — is selling the hip inner-city pad where his Euro dreams were born.

Speaking from Vienna, where he is co-hosting SBS’ Eurovision coverage, Estrin told House That! he was at the home when he wrote Dreamer, which was his 2022 Eurovision bid, and Promise, which was the Australian entry in 2023.

The band came in ninth with Promise, which went on to become a hit in Australia, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and the UK.

Their 2023 performance remains one of the most heartfelt of all time. Estrin’s keytar solo alongside a 1980s Toyota, while clad in a glittering houndstooth suit achieved Eurovision singularity.

The Studio That Sparked Eurovision Dreams

The songs were written in an elevated studio with jarrah cladding, set above a carport at the back of the Perth home. With its own entry and ensuite, the studio could also be used as accommodation or an office.

While there are some quaint touches in the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home Estrin shares with his wife and two daughters, it is less Euro theatre and more cosmo charm.

The Federation home’s heritage features combine with architecturally designed upgrades to the formal dining and living room and a sunken lounge. Timber floorboards grace most of the house, but polished concrete adorns the modern kitchen and family room.

Charming Features and a Prime Location

A 16sqm loft in the main residence ensures ample storage, while exposed brick and original Federation fireplaces add vintage charm. The home includes an outdoor shower in the frangipani-filled courtyard, where the scent of flowers mingles with the smell of croissants wafting over from the patisserie across the road.

The block is compact at 253sqm but is only a few doors away from the stunning Hyde Park.

While some sections of the market are cooling, an offer on the home was accepted within days of listing in the high $1 millions, via agent Claude Iaconi. For his part, life after Eurovision is set to remain exciting for Estrin, who will soon roll out an SBS show about cars, called Precious Metal.
