The countdown is on until MJ: The Michael Jackson Musical touches down in Perth, with star of the show Ilario Grant moonwalking into Crown Perth’s Crystal Club on Monday to give VIP fans a preview ahead of its local premiere on June 6.

A Star Born and Raised in the US

Born and raised in the United States, Grant grew up as a singer and a devoted fan of the King of Pop. He played Michael Jackson on Broadway before bringing his talents to Australia in the show’s tour Down Under.

The musical offers a behind-the-scenes look at Michael Jackson’s iconic Dangerous World Tour in 1992, reliving the signature dance moves and music that captivated audiences around the globe.

A month out from its official launch in Perth, guests were treated to an exclusive Q&A with Grant hosted by Narelda Jacobs. During the session, the performer illustrated the level of fandom he had experienced in Australia.

However, the highlight of the night was undoubtedly Grant’s live performance of Billie Jean, delivered with stellar vocals and a choreographed dance routine invoking the spirit of Michael.

WA-Based Performers Join the Cast

A raft of WA-based performers will be joining the American in his Western Australian shows. These include Kyle Lamar Mitchell in the roles of Berry Gordy and Nick, Sarah Morrison as MTV journalist Rachel, Albany’s Tim Wright as Michael’s Business Manager Dave, and G Madison IV, who hails from San Diego, who will embody the youngest Jackson brother Randy.

Australian Producer Shares Excitement

Australian producer Michael Cassel said Perth fans would be electrified by the powerhouse show.

“Perth audiences are in for a truly special experience when MJ arrives at Crown Theatre,” he said. “This show has captivated crowds around the world and now, as the final stop on the Australian tour, it is Western Australia’s turn to witness this global hit that has connected audiences across generations thanks to all the music we know and love.”

The musical has already wowed audiences in Melbourne and Brisbane, with all local performances to go on sale from Thursday May 7. The show premieres at Crown Theatre Perth on Saturday, June 6.
