Man Arrested After Knife Attack Forces Toowoomba Lockdown

Police have arrested a man following an alleged knife attack that forced a major shopping centre into lockdown.

Emergency services were called to the Woolworths supermarket inside Grand Central Shopping Centre in Toowoomba, west of Brisbane, at approximately 1:15pm on Friday after reports of a disturbance involving several individuals.

Authorities arrived within minutes and took a man into custody.

Witnesses described seeing shoppers and staff hurriedly evacuating the supermarket as police officers and centre security personnel moved through the area.

Parts of the shopping centre were evacuated while emergency crews responded to the incident.

Paramedics assessed three people at the scene. One man sustained a hand injury and was transported to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.

The two other individuals assessed by paramedics did not suffer any physical injuries.

As of Friday afternoon, no charges had been laid.
