Man accused of murdering newborn baby in Perth court

A 23-year-old man has faced a Perth court accused of murdering a newborn baby. Eric Ronald Riley appeared before a magistrate on Monday, charged with the murder of an eight-week-old infant. The child was allegedly critically injured during an incident in the northern suburb of Innaloo three weeks ago and died in hospital on Saturday.

During his court appearance, Riley held his head in his hands as the charges were read. A large group of grieving family members attended the hearing, alongside detectives from the homicide squad. Riley was remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court in June.

The case has drawn significant attention, with authorities continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the baby's death. Further details are expected to emerge as the legal proceedings progress.
