Family Pleads for Neurosurgeon Charlie Teo to Save Boy

The parents of a 12-year-old boy are pleading with medical authorities to overturn restrictions on world-renowned neurosurgeon Professor Charlie Teo, saying he is their son's only hope of survival.

A Devastating Diagnosis

Sydney's Jackson Stieler was just nine years old when doctors discovered a brain tumour. A biopsy procedure caused bleeding and left him with an acquired brain injury, changing his life forever.

"This has been horrific for our family," Jaxson's mother Helen said. "It's devastating, but we'll keep pushing."

Despite his challenges, Jaxson has shown remarkable resilience as he learns to navigate his new reality with his mother's support. But now, as his condition deteriorates, his family faces another battle — this time with bureaucracy.

Desperate for Surgery

The family is desperate to have Jaxson's tumour removed, and they say Teo is their only option.

"There are no other neurosurgeons in the country that will perform this type of surgery," Helen said.

Professor Teo's surgical privileges have been heavily restricted in Australia following controversial misconduct findings, leaving the family in an impossible position.

"We would do anything to save Jaxson's life," Helen said.

Potential Trip to China

Unless authorities urgently intervene, Jaxson and his family will need to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars and travel to China, where Teo can perform the life-saving surgery.

"If we don't take this risk, the tumour will take my boy, so that's the choice we have," Helen said.

The family has set up a Facebook page — Jaxson's Journey — and a GoFundMe as they navigate a situation no parent ever wants to face.
