Australian audiences have been given a sobering health update from Hollywood star Evangeline Lilly, months after she suffered a serious head injury in a frightening accident.
Shocking Scan Results Confirm Long-Term Impact
In a candid video shared on Instagram, the actress best known for her roles in Lost and the Ant-Man films delivered what she called "bad news." Recent medical scans have revealed that almost every area of her brain is now functioning at a decreased capacity as a direct result of the traumatic brain injury (TBI) she sustained.
The incident occurred in May last year when Lilly fainted at the beach and fell face-first onto a boulder. The impact caused significant facial injuries and a concussion. While she has been documenting her recovery since first disclosing the TBI, these latest scan results confirm the full, worrying extent of the damage.
A Lifelong Health Battle and a Career Pause
Lilly explained to her followers that she has experienced fainting spells since childhood. After doctors ruled out epilepsy, she was eventually diagnosed with hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar. She recounted telling medical staff at the hospital after her beach fall that they wouldn't find a cause for her blackout, referring to this long-standing condition.
The Canadian actress and mother-of-two, who rose to global fame as Kate Austen on ABC's hit drama Lost, had already announced her departure from acting following the incident. She stated that the cognitive decline she has experienced since the accident has forced her to slow down, leading to a "more restful" end to 2025.
Looking Forward with Gratitude
Despite the difficult diagnosis, Lilly struck a note of resilience. She confirmed she is working closely with doctors to try and "fix" the issues and expressed feeling "extraordinarily grateful" and "blessed." She shared the update as she entered the Lunar New Year, marking the Year of the Horse.
Evangeline Lilly's career includes starring alongside Paul Rudd in the Marvel Ant-Man films as Hope Pym and portraying the elf Tauriel in The Hobbit franchise. Her health journey continues to resonate with fans who have followed her career for decades.
