Mandurah Hockey Stadium Gets New Surface for 2026 Season

Mandurah's sporting community is set to benefit from a major facility upgrade, with a new synthetic hybrid playing surface at Mandurah Hockey Stadium installed for the start of the 2026 season.

New Surface Replaces Ageing Pitch

The upgraded surface has replaced the stadium's ageing pitch, which had not been updated in more than 18 years. The upgrade coincides with the Peel Hockey Association's 50th anniversary.

Built to modern standards, the new surface is expected to deliver improved safety, performance and durability for players, while supporting shared use by other compatible sports.

Mayor Highlights Community Benefits

Mayor Amber Kearns said the project was an important investment in sport and community participation.

"Upgrading our hockey green isn't just about a better surface, it's about creating safer conditions, supporting our clubs and volunteers, and making sure locals have every opportunity to play, grow and stay connected to our community," she said.

The new surface has provided a higher-quality home venue for the Peel Hockey Association's more than 400 members ahead of the 2026 season.

Shared Use for Maximum Value

Ms Kearns said the upgrade also reflected the city's focus on maximising the value of community infrastructure.

"While hockey will always be the main user of the stadium, we've designed this upgrade so the whole community can get value from it," she said.

"Shared use by compatible sports means more people, more activity and more opportunities on the same piece of ground."

Peel Hockey Association Welcomes Upgrade

A spokesperson for the Peel Hockey Association welcomed the completion of the upgraded surface ahead of the new season.

"This upgrade is a major step forward for hockey in the Peel region," the spokesperson said.

"The new surface provides a fantastic home base for our clubs, enhances the playing experience for athletes at every level, and sets a strong foundation for continued participation and growth in hockey across all age groups."

Funding and Government Support

The project was funded mostly by the City of Mandurah, with support from the State Government and Peel Hockey Association.

This project is part of the State Government's PlayOn WA initiative to deliver 2030 community infrastructure items across WA by 2030.
