A 60-year-old nurse has been identified as the victim of a devastating head-on collision involving an allegedly stolen vehicle, as she was driving to her job at a local aged care facility.
Carron Scott, a beloved nurse at Woodford Manor Aged Care, was behind the wheel of an orange Toyota Corolla on the D'Aguilar Highway at Woodford, north of Brisbane, around 6:10am on Tuesday when a white Isuzu D-Max utility struck her vehicle head-on.
She suffered critical injuries and tragically died at the scene. Her employer confirmed she was on her way to work at the time of the accident.
Police allege the Isuzu ute had been stolen earlier that morning, around 3:45am, from a property on McLoughlin Road in Morayfield.
Detective Inspector Lisa Elkins described the circumstances as extremely tragic. She stated that the stolen utility was driven by a 31-year-old man who fled the scene after the collision. The smaller vehicle involved was a Toyota Corolla driven by the 60-year-old woman, who unfortunately lost her life.
“Very tragic circumstances, to be in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Detective Inspector Elkins said.
Following the crash, police launched a search for the driver, which led to a nearby school and daycare centre being placed into lockdown as officers combed the area. The man was located approximately two hours later inside a school toilet block, where he was arrested.
The 31-year-old suspect remains in hospital with minor injuries under police guard. No charges have been laid at this stage.
Manor Aged Care expressed deep sorrow over Scott's passing, stating that she would be greatly missed by colleagues, residents, and families. In a statement, the service extended heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Floral tributes have been placed at the crash site in Woodford in memory of the nurse.
The highway was closed in both directions for several hours to allow investigators to examine the scene. The Caboolture Criminal Investigation Branch is continuing its investigation and has urged anyone with information or relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
