Little Creatures Unveils $10 Million Fremantle Waterfront Expansion with Sweeping Harbour Views

Little Creatures has officially launched a $10 million transformation of a once-derelict stretch of the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, creating a sprawling multi-level hospitality destination. This major expansion, nestled between the original venue at 40 Mews Road and the former Joe’s Fish Shack, spans two levels and offers uninterrupted views of the harbour, positioning it as a new landmark for locals and tourists alike.

A Revamped Space with Unmatched Views

The new development, which opened on March 12, has been designed to accommodate more than 1000 patrons, significantly enhancing the capacity of the existing operation. While the original Great Hall, now known as The Brewhouse, remains the heart of the venue, the adjacent building has been converted into an extensive dining precinct. National operations manager Carrie Watson highlighted that every seat in the house now provides sweeping harbour views, a feature expected to make the venue a favourite destination.

"In the past, everyone migrated to that back beer garden in the Great Hall," Watson said. "Now, you can experience that view everywhere you sit." This design shift aims to elevate the overall visitor experience, blending the charm of the original site with modern amenities.

Distinct Zones for Diverse Experiences

The redesign divides the massive footprint into several distinct zones, each catering to different styles of visits. Cherub Hall serves as the main bar and dining hub, complete with relaxed lounge zones on the front deck. Along the boardwalk, The Deck Bar is positioned as the go-to spot for sports enthusiasts, featuring big screens for game viewing. Perched on the second level, The Loft offers a more elevated experience with booth seating, a feed me menu, and handcrafted cocktails, appealing to those seeking a premium outing beyond standard offerings.

Field sales director Danny Connolly emphasized that significant investment has also been directed into brewing infrastructure behind the scenes. "It was absolutely critical for us to ensure that the beer was as fresh as it possibly could be," Connolly stated. "We’ve managed to embed the technology to ensure that Little Creatures beer goes straight from server, unpasteurised, to the taps, so that consumers get the freshest beer experience they possibly can in the venue."

Blending Tradition with Innovation

While the downstairs bars remain firmly within the Little Creatures brand, The Loft branches out slightly, incorporating nods to stablemates such as Swan Draught and Guinness. From its origins as a Matilda Bay spin-off to its $380 million acquisition by Lion in 2012, Little Creatures has long been a cornerstone of Fremantle’s craft beer scene. Connolly noted, "While different, we have taken all the things that people love over the last 25 years of the original Little Creatures experience and just added to that."

This latest redevelopment represents a major bet on the future of the Fremantle waterfront, signaling a fresh chapter for a venue that has become integral to the city’s identity. With its enhanced facilities and strategic location, the expansion is poised to attract a wide audience, reinforcing Little Creatures' role in the local hospitality and tourism sectors.
