A three-month alleged shoplifting spree across the Australian Capital Territory, involving items from televisions to an inflatable spa, has come to an end with the arrest of a 27-year-old man.
Alleged Theft Spree Across Canberra
ACT Policing alleges the man from Duffy was involved in a series of thefts at 13 different retail stores between September and November. The targeted items were diverse and high-value, including multiple televisions, a portable fridge freezer, a barbecue, an outdoor heater, a tent, and fuel. The total estimated value of the stolen goods is around $20,000.
Investigators say the man also attempted to steal from several other locations during this period. His alleged run finally concluded on Tuesday, December 3, 2025, when officers executed a search warrant at his residence in the suburb of Duffy.
Police Investigation and Charges Laid
Police credit collaboration with local retailers and a thorough review of CCTV footage for cracking the case. The evidence allegedly confirmed the same individual was responsible for all the incidents, linking the separate thefts into one serial pattern.
Following his arrest, the man was charged with a total of nine offences. These include four counts of theft, two counts of minor theft, and three counts of attempted minor theft. He is scheduled to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday to answer to these allegations.
Community Impact and Court Proceedings
The arrest highlights the impact of retail crime on local businesses in the Canberra region. The theft of such a wide range of goods, from big-ticket electrical items to everyday fuel, represents a significant financial loss.
The 27-year-old remains the subject of an ongoing police process as the judicial system takes over. His upcoming court appearance will be the next step in determining the outcome of the numerous charges laid against him.
