Suspicious Fire in New Langford Home Under Investigation

Authorities in Perth are treating an early morning blaze at a brand new property as suspicious, after firefighters were called to the scene in the southern suburb of Langford.

Firefighters Find Internal Doors Alight

Emergency services rushed to Spencer Road in Langford just before 7:40am on Monday, December 29, 2025, following a triple-0 call. A spokesperson for the Department of Fire and Emergency Services reported that crews observed black smoke billowing from the interior of the recently constructed home.

Upon entering, firefighters discovered a pile of internal doors well alight. The flames had already spread to the ceiling, threatening the structure of the new build.

Police Launch Investigation at Scene

The fire was brought under control within minutes, which helped limit the overall damage to the vacant property. However, the circumstances surrounding the ignition have prompted a police investigation.

Several plainclothes officers remained at the Spencer Road address throughout the afternoon. They were seen canvassing the neighbourhood, speaking with residents of adjacent homes, and collecting evidence. This included photographing items that had been left at a bus shelter directly opposite the fire-affected house.

Appeal for Information from Public

With the cause officially deemed suspicious, WA Police are appealing to the community for assistance. A police spokeswoman has urged anyone with information to come forward.

This includes individuals who may have relevant dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage from the Spencer Road area in the early hours of Monday morning. Witnesses or those with knowledge of the incident are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
