All flights in and out of Kalgoorlie have been halted as thick fog envelops the regional centre on Monday morning, causing significant travel disruptions.
Flight Operations Suspended
Aircraft scheduled to land at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport have been forced to divert to alternative locations due to the severe fog conditions, acting CEO Lui Camporeale confirmed. As of approximately 9:30 AM, no departures were taking place from the airport, leaving passengers stranded and schedules in disarray.
Mr. Camporeale stated that the rescheduling of flights would be handled by individual airline carriers, who are closely monitoring guidance from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM). “Passengers are advised to contact their airline directly for the latest scheduling updates and information,” he added.
Impact on Travelers
The sudden suspension has caused confusion among travelers, with many left waiting at the terminal for further announcements. Airlines are working to rebook affected passengers, but delays are expected to persist until the fog lifts and visibility improves. The BOM has indicated that the fog may linger for several hours, and updates will be provided as conditions change.
Local authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution on roads, as reduced visibility also poses risks for driving. The airport is expected to resume normal operations once weather conditions allow, but no specific timeline has been given.
