Police Launch New Search at North Nowra Property Over 2024 Suspicious Death
New Clues Spark Major Police Search on South Coast

Police have launched a significant new operation at a rural South Coast property, reigniting the investigation into the suspicious death of a man more than a year ago.

New Information Sparks Fresh Search

Acting on recent information, detectives from the South Coast Police District returned to a property in North Nowra on Tuesday, 6 January 2026. The operation involved specialist officers from the Crime Scene Unit and the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, who meticulously combed the area where the man's body was discovered.

Authorities utilised advanced technology, including drones and cameras, to scour the rural site. This marks a major development in a case that has remained open since the tragic incident in late 2024.

Details of the Original Incident

The investigation, under Strike Force Bursteed, began after a 60-year-old man was found unconscious with head injuries near a gas pipeline clearing on the property on 9 December 2024. Despite the efforts of attending paramedics, the man died at the scene.

Police have consistently treated the death as suspicious. The return to the property over a year later indicates investigators have received fresh leads that warranted a physical re-examination of the location.

Police Appeal for Community Assistance

South Coast Police District Commander, Superintendent Darren Brand, has made a direct appeal to the public for information. He emphasised that police do not believe the attack was random and that there was likely an interaction involving the man before his death.

"We know someone out there knows what happened," Superintendent Brand stated. "We believe there may be more than one person involved."

He sought to reassure the local community, stating there is no believed ongoing risk, and urged anyone with knowledge to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.

The renewed police activity underscores the determination of investigators to solve the case and provide answers for the victim's family and the North Nowra community.
