Kyle Flanagan's Home Unsold After Auction, Still on Market

The St George Illawarra Dragons have endured a challenging start to the NRL season, yet to secure a victory, and have also parted ways with coach Shane Flanagan. Amidst this turmoil, halfback Kyle Flanagan has been recalled to the starting lineup for the Magic Round clash against Penrith this weekend.

Off the field, Kyle Flanagan's southern Sydney property went to auction on Thursday evening but failed to attract a buyer under the hammer. The co-selling agent, Matt Debreczeni from Ray White Sutherland Shire, confirmed to the Mercury that five bidders registered for the auction, with three actively participating. Bidding fell just short of the reserve price, and negotiations are now underway with multiple prospective buyers.

Property Details and History

In 2024, Kyle and his wife Caity Airey purchased their first home together off-market for $2.65 million. The Burraneer property was bought from Caity's parents, Janelle and Craig Airey, a former director at the Cronulla Sharks. The mid-century modern-style home, which sits on a 662-square-metre block, features five bedrooms, water views, and a pool. The Aireys had originally purchased the home for $1.38 million in 2008.

Mr Debreczeni previously noted that the Flanagans had been planning to sell for some time as they were looking to upgrade. According to Cotality, the current median house price in Burraneer stands at $3,640,812.

Kyle Flanagan's NRL Career and Property Moves

Since making his NRL debut in 2018, Kyle Flanagan has played for Cronulla, Sydney Roosters, Canterbury, and now St George Illawarra. In 2024, he sold his two-bedroom Woolooware apartment for $748,500, having purchased it for $650,000 in 2018.

Other family members have also been active in the property market. In 2014, then Cronulla Sharks coach Shane Flanagan sold his long-time Bangor home for $1.075 million, which he had bought for $330,000 in 1994. This sale occurred after Shane spent $2.3 million on a five-bedroom house in Caringbah South. Additionally, in 2017, Shane helped his daughter Jade purchase an $840,000 two-bedroom apartment in Woolooware Bay as her first home.

Market Context

The unsold auction highlights the current property market dynamics in Sydney's southern suburbs, where premium homes continue to attract interest but may require price adjustments to meet buyer expectations. The Flanagan property remains available for sale, with agents optimistic about reaching a deal with one of the interested parties.
