Altim Property Celebrates Completion of Key West Development in Newcastle West
Newcastle-based developer Altim Property has officially completed its Key West project in Newcastle West, marking a significant milestone for the area's urban transformation. The adaptive reuse of the former Gamers Motor Auctions building at 69 Parry Street was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, just over a year after development approval was granted in early 2025.
Preserving History with Modern Design
The redevelopment, known as Key West, preserved the existing two-storey structure while incorporating contemporary design elements by Newcastle architectural firm EJE Architecture. Construction was led by local building company Core Project Group, resulting in a modern commercial and medical complex featuring 12 high-end suites.
"The completion of Key West is incredibly rewarding for us," said Altim Property director Ian Summers. "From the outset, our vision was to create more than just a commercial building. We wanted to deliver a modern space that lifts the standard of Newcastle West and delivers real value to the community."
Design Features and Tenant Mix
The development includes several distinctive design elements that enhance both functionality and aesthetics:
- Mezzanine spaces providing flexible office configurations
- Skylights that flood the interior with natural light
- Oversized Manhattan-style windows offering expansive views
- An internal courtyard creating a peaceful central gathering space
- Thirty on-site parking spaces for convenient access
Key West now houses a diverse mix of owner-occupiers, including creative content agency Made By Moka, ENT specialist Dr Monique Parkin, and speech pathologist Teresa Dodds. Anchoring the ground floor is the eight-GP Parry Street Family Practice, which has become a cornerstone tenant of the development.
Strategic Location in Growing Newcastle West
Parry Street Family Practice owner and principal GP Dr Oscar Cumming explained why Key West was the ideal location for their new clinic: "We chose Key West as the location for our new practice due to the incredible growth that Newcastle West is experiencing. With the significant increase in high-density residential developments and the light rail, Newcastle West is now becoming the city's new CBD. It felt like the right place to establish a practice that can grow alongside a vibrant and evolving community."
The development represents a strategic investment in Newcastle West's transformation, with Altim Property having paid $7.55 million for the building and neighboring property in January 2024 according to Cotality records. A limited number of commercial and medical specialist suites remain available for sale, offering opportunities for additional businesses to join this growing precinct.
Broader Development Portfolio
Altim Property has established itself as a significant player in Newcastle's property landscape, having also completed the Swift and Arbour office projects on Hunter Street. The Key West development continues this trend of transforming underutilized spaces into modern, functional environments that contribute to the city's economic and social fabric.
The successful completion of Key West demonstrates how adaptive reuse projects can preserve architectural heritage while meeting contemporary commercial needs, creating sustainable developments that enhance urban environments and support community growth.
