Great Southern Mining has announced significant shallow gold intercepts at its Mon Ami project near Laverton in Western Australia, indicating the potential for a new parallel lode that could substantially expand the deposit's current resource. The company completed 2,146 metres of aircore drilling, targeting gold anomalies north of the existing resource, which stands at 1.56 million tonnes grading 1.11 grams per tonne (g/t) of gold.
Impressive Drilling Results Uncover New Gold Structures
One standout intercept from the drilling program returned 2 metres at 2.56g/t gold from a depth of 62 metres, situated within a broader 10-metre section grading 0.77g/t gold. This result confirms the presence of saprolite-hosted gold directly beneath a surface anomaly, highlighting the project's shallow mineralisation potential.
Another hole delivered two additional columns of gold mineralisation: 2 metres at 1.86g/t gold from 20 metres and a 2-metre strike of 0.74g/t gold from 62 metres. These recent hits align with a historic shallow intercept from 2018, which featured 4 metres at 2.5g/t gold, collectively suggesting the emergence of a promising new parallel structure at the site.
Mon Ami Project Poised for Near-Term Development
The Mon Ami project remains open to the north and down plunge, offering considerable exploration upside. It is situated on a granted mining licence with much of the key permitting already in place, streamlining the path to development. Given its proximity to operating and planned gold mills, Mon Ami could evolve into a highly valuable near-term development opportunity for Great Southern Mining.
Matthew Keane, Managing Director of Great Southern Mining, commented on the assay results, stating, "The recent assay results at Mon Ami highlight the potential for new gold lodes offset and parallel to the existing resource. We are building a better understanding of the mineralised system and we believe there may be several high-grade splays associated within the broader Barnicoat Shear Zone."
Expanding Exploration Across the Duketon Gold Project
In addition to the Mon Ami project, Great Southern Mining is actively pursuing gold at its Amy Clarke prospect, which is rapidly ascending the company's priority list. The gold mineralisation at Amy Clarke is located within a 4.7-kilometre-long corridor, hosted in a high-grade fractionated dolerite that resembles Kalgoorlie's renowned Golden Mile.
A follow-up aircore program in 2025 at Amy Clarke yielded impressive thick discovery intercepts, including a 17-metre hit grading 1.4g/t gold, with a high-grade section of 1 metre at 11.2g/t gold. This underscores the prospect's potential as a significant exploration target.
Strategic Focus on Value-Adding Opportunities
While Great Southern Mining continues an aggressive exploration program across its broader Duketon gold project, including ongoing RC drilling at Golden Boulder and additional work at Amy Clarke, Mon Ami stands out as a more advanced asset in the portfolio. With encouraging shallow hits now confirmed, depth potential yet to be fully explored, and a supportive gold price environment, the company has multiple value-adding pathways across its gold portfolio.
The market is beginning to recognise Great Southern Mining's potential, as these developments position the company for growth and near-term opportunities in Western Australia's prolific gold region.
