A fatal workplace incident has rocked a Brisbane inner-city suburb, claiming the life of one man and leaving another with serious injuries after a retaining wall collapsed at a construction site.
Emergency Response to Boundary Street Tragedy
Emergency services were called to Boundary Street in West End just after 8.25am on Thursday following reports of the structural collapse. Upon arrival, crews discovered a devastating scene where a retaining wall had given way, trapping two workers. Tragically, the 45-year-old man could not be saved and was declared dead at the scene.
Paramedics from the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) then began a delicate and protracted rescue operation to free the second worker, a 19-year-old man, who was pinned beneath the rubble. Multiple paramedic units attended the serious incident. The rescue effort lasted for over an hour before the teenager was successfully extracted and rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for urgent treatment of his serious injuries.
