A 27-year-old man from the Hunter region is facing a string of serious charges following an extensive police investigation into alleged sexual assaults against his co-workers.

Major Police Operation Leads to Arrest

Detectives from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District arrested the Maitland man on Tuesday afternoon at a residence in Bolwarra Heights. The arrest was the culmination of an investigation by Strike Force Chariot, which was established in March 2025 to examine a series of linked alleged sexual assaults.

The man was taken to Maitland Police Station following his arrest, where he was formally charged.

Allegations Span Multiple Locations

Police will allege in court that the man sexually assaulted three women who were his colleagues at an out-of-home care provider. The alleged offences are said to have occurred at six different locations across New South Wales between August 2023 and January 2025.

The towns and suburbs named in the allegations include Greta, Rutherford, Maitland, Tweed Heads, Banora Point, and Moss Vale.

Lengthy List of Serious Charges

The 27-year-old now faces a total of 29 separate charges. The serious nature of the allegations is reflected in the specific offences laid by police.

The charges include:

  • Five counts of sexual intercourse without consent.
  • Four counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
  • Three counts of sexually touching another person without consent.
  • Two counts of aggravated sexual assault inflicting actual bodily harm.
  • Two counts of intentionally choking a person without consent.
  • One count each of intentionally choking a person with recklessness, and choking a person with intention to commit an indictable offence.
