Sydney Family Loses Home in Devastating Fire Caused by iPhone Charger
A Sydney family has been left with almost nothing after their home was completely gutted by a devastating fire, which investigators have determined was sparked by an iPhone charger left plugged in overnight. The blaze erupted in the early hours of the morning at a residence on Graham Street in Narellan, while a man, woman, and their daughter were asleep inside.
Terrifying Escape as Flames Engulf Property
Neighbours watched helplessly as fierce flames consumed the property, with one witness describing the intense heat and jets of fire shooting from the windows. "You can feel the heat, eh? It was like jets of flames coming out the window. It was going hard," the witness said. Another neighbour recounted the terrifying moment they realised something was wrong, initially mistaking the noise for gunshots before seeing flames and embers rising above nearby houses.
Miraculously, all three residents managed to escape the inferno unharmed, though two were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. A neighbour praised their quick actions, stating, "They all just got straight out of their house, which was fantastic. I said that was the best thing they could have done. They were pretty shell-shocked."
Emergency Evacuations and Community Shock
The fire was so ferocious that it nearly spread to neighbouring properties, prompting emergency evacuations in the area. One resident recalled being urgently told to evacuate, while another woke up confused to megaphone announcements. Authorities have issued a warning based on the investigation, noting that the charger appeared legitimate but emphasising the dangers of leaving devices charging overnight. "It all looks like it was a legit charger. Be careful of recharging any battery overnight," they advised.
Neighbours expressed deep shock and sympathy for the family, with one noting the daughter's distress and describing the father as a kind and helpful man. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential hazards associated with common household electronics.
