A Mandurah family business has been recognised at the 2026 Australian Small Business Champion Awards. Swan’s Professional Plumbing won the plumbing services category at the awards ceremony held in Sydney on Friday, May 1. Owner Michael Swan and his wife Gemma attended the event.
A Proud Moment for the Team
Mr Swan, a second-generation owner of the business, said the win was a proud moment for his entire team and reflected their dedication, workmanship, and customer-first approach. “Gemma and I genuinely weren’t expecting to win,” Mr Swan said. “There were so many strong businesses in the room. Standing up on that stage in front of a thousand people, all I could think about was the crew back home and everything that’s gone into building Swan’s to this point.”
National Recognition
The Australian Small Business Champion Awards recognise outstanding small businesses across more than 100 industry categories, from trades and professional services to retail, hospitality, health, and specialist service businesses. They were created to celebrate the contribution small businesses make to Australia’s economy, employment, and local communities. Swan’s Professional Plumbing was the only Western Australian-based finalist in its category and beat out 22 other plumbing companies from across the country.
Mr Swan said winning the award provided validation and recognition that he was doing the right thing as a business owner. “To have the judges recognise Swan’s as a strong, well-run operation was a pretty powerful moment,” he said. “There are plenty of plumbers out there, but being able to say you’re an award-winning business that’s been recognised on a national stage changes how people see you. It helps confirm that we’re not just talking about quality and service, we’re consistently delivering it. That kind of recognition naturally helps set you apart.”
From Humble Beginnings
Founded in 2002 by Michael’s father Stephen, the business has since expanded from Mandurah to providing plumbing services across the greater Peel and Perth region. “While we’re incredibly proud of this achievement, we see it as just the beginning,” Mr Swan said. “Our focus remains unchanged: to deliver exceptional plumbing services, continue raising the bar for quality and reliability, and be your local plumber for life. As we move forward, we’re excited to build on this momentum, invest further in our team, and continue serving our local community with the same dedication that earned us this national recognition.”
