Sekisui House Launches $520M Cascadia Development

Japanese property giant Sekisui House has officially launched its ambitious $520 million residential community, Cascadia, located at Calderwood near Albion Park in the Illawarra region. The large-scale development will deliver approximately 1,600 homes, including a mix of detached houses, townhouses, and apartments, designed to cater to a diverse range of residents.

A New Sustainable Community

Cascadia is being positioned as a model for sustainable living, with a strong emphasis on environmental design and energy efficiency. The development will feature extensive green spaces, including parks, walking trails, and a central community hub. Sekisui House has committed to incorporating native landscaping and water-sensitive urban design to minimise environmental impact.

Housing Diversity and Affordability

The project aims to address housing affordability in the region by offering a variety of lot sizes and housing types. Approximately 10% of the homes will be designated as affordable housing, in line with government targets. The development will also include a mix of one to four-bedroom dwellings to suit first-home buyers, families, and downsizers.

Infrastructure and Amenities

Sekisui House is working closely with local councils and the New South Wales government to deliver necessary infrastructure. Plans include a new primary school, local shopping centre, and community facilities. The development is strategically located near the M1 Princes Motorway, providing easy access to Wollongong and Sydney.

Economic and Community Impact

The Cascadia project is expected to create hundreds of jobs during construction and support local businesses. Sekisui House has stated that the development will contribute to the economic growth of the Illawarra region while fostering a strong sense of community. The first stages of land release are scheduled for mid-2025, with construction anticipated to commence shortly thereafter.

Environmental Certifications

All homes in Cascadia will be built to a minimum 7-star NatHERS energy rating, exceeding standard requirements. The development will also incorporate solar-ready infrastructure, rainwater harvesting, and electric vehicle charging points. Sekisui House is targeting a 6-star Green Star Communities rating for the project.

The launch of Cascadia marks a significant milestone for Sekisui House in Australia, as the company continues to expand its footprint in the residential development sector. With a focus on quality design and sustainability, the project is set to become a benchmark for future communities in the Illawarra.
