University of Newcastle Professor Tracy Burrows has been elected a 2025 Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, one of the nation's highest honours in health research. The recognition celebrates her contributions to dietetics, food and nutrition science.
Professor Burrows has led research to improve dietary assessment methods, strengthen child obesity interventions, and use digital technologies for better dietary evaluation. Her work has informed 40 policy documents across 12 organisations in nine countries and is reflected in more than 240 research publications.
Her recent studies have examined food addiction and links between mental health and disordered eating. She aims to help people improve their health without focusing solely on diet and body weight, promoting healthier alternatives and a better relationship with food.
Professor Burrows is one of 29 new fellows announced by the academy. Academy President Louise Baur said the new fellows represent the best of health and medical sciences in Australia, tackling global health challenges and advancing biomedical discovery.
