A 25-year-old man has been found dead on a walking track in Goonellabah, near Lismore, after an apparent brawl at a nearby park. Police were called to Fischer Street about 6:20 am following the discovery of the body.
Earlier, around 2:50 am, a 31-year-old man was found with serious head injuries in the same area. He was taken to Lismore Base Hospital and later airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital in critical condition.
Police believe both men may have been involved in a brawl at Clifford Park in the early hours of the morning. The investigation is being led by officers from the Richmond Police District, assisted by the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to piece together the events leading up to the incident.
