Woman Posing as Sex Worker Poisoned Two Men, Convicted

Adina Mihai, 31, and Madalin Dumitru, 30, have pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of two men in Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire after targeting victims seeking sexual services and drugging them with a lethal sedative to steal from them.

Details of the Crimes

Between August 2024 and July 2025, the pair, formerly from Ilford in Essex, lured men by taking financial deposits before Mihai met them at their homes posing as a sex worker. She secretly administered GBL (gamma-butyrolactone), which converts into GHB in the body, a powerful sedative.

Malcolm King, 80, from a village near Cirencester in Gloucestershire, was found dead at his home on 21 August 2024. Gary Mouat, 37, was discovered dead at his property in Banbury, Oxfordshire, on 13 July 2025.

Investigation and Toxicology

Thames Valley police's major crime unit initially determined that Mihai had poisoned Mouat by adding GBL to an alcoholic drink. A nationwide bulletin was issued to other police forces to check for similar cases. Gloucestershire police re-examined King's death, initially deemed non-suspicious due to a pre-existing condition, but further toxicology tests confirmed GBL poisoning.

Two additional surviving victims from southern England were also identified, who cannot be named for legal reasons. No other deaths or thefts have been linked to the pair, but police remain open to the possibility of other victims.

Court Proceedings and Statements

Appearing via video link at Oxford Crown Court on Wednesday, the pair pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and two counts each of administering poison. They were remanded in custody and will be sentenced later; Mrs Justice Brunner indicated they face long jail terms.

Detective Inspector Adam Stacey of Gloucestershire police said: “Adina Mihai and Madalin Dumitru targeted men who were seeking sexual services and covertly drugged to render them unconscious before stealing from them. Tragically for Mr King, their callous and calculated actions had fatal consequences.”

Detective Inspector Michael Roddy of Thames Valley police added: “For Gary Mouat, these actions had fatal consequences so I am pleased to have got answers for his family and would like to thank them for their support throughout our investigation.”
