Ubud Writers Festival 2026 Embraces Samarasa Theme for Harmony and Purpose
The Ubud Writers & Readers Festival, a premier literary event held annually in Bali, has unveiled its theme for 2026: Samarasa. This concept, rooted in Sanskrit philosophy, aims to foster a holistic approach by integrating awareness, empathy, and action into the festival's programming and discussions.
Exploring the Core Elements of Samarasa
Samarasa is derived from ancient Sanskrit teachings and is structured around three key components:
- Citta (Mind): Representing awareness and clarity of thought.
- Rasa (Heart): Symbolizing empathy and emotional connection.
- Karsa (Action): Emphasizing the translation of insights into purposeful deeds.
Festival founder and director Janet DeNeefe elaborated on this theme, stating, "We will reflect on how thought, feeling, and action can exist in harmony. Awareness brings clarity, empathy builds connection, and action turns insight into purpose." This framework is designed to inspire attendees to engage deeply with literature, culture, and social issues.
Event Details and Highlights
The festival is scheduled to take place from October 21 to 25, 2026, in Ubud, Bali. Passes for the entire event are currently available for purchase online at the official festival website, ubudwritersfestival.com/tickets. In addition to the main program, several notable features have been announced:
