NRL Legend Faces Court After Alleged Hotel Altercation

Queensland rugby league identity and Seven Network NRL analyst Trevor Gillmeister finds himself on the wrong side of the law, facing serious charges following an alleged disturbance at a Brisbane establishment. The 61-year-old former Broncos hardman has been charged with assaulting and obstructing a police officer, along with public nuisance offences.

Police Account of Friday Night Incident

According to Queensland Police, the situation unfolded on Friday, November 14 when officers were alerted to a physical disturbance inside the Stock Exchange Hotel on Charlotte Street in Brisbane City. A member of the public approached police shortly before midnight, bringing the incident to their attention.

Authorities state that upon arrival, they were informed that Gillmeister had already been removed from the licensed premises after allegedly assaulting a staff member. When police attempted to speak with the Gordon Park resident and place him under arrest for public nuisance, the situation reportedly escalated dramatically.

Alleged Physical Struggle With Officers

Police claim that Gillmeister pushed officers away as they tried to arrest him, leading to what they describe as a physical struggle. The former State of Origin legend was subsequently arrested and transported to the Brisbane City Watchhouse for processing.

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson confirmed the charges in an official statement: "He has since been charged with one count each of public nuisance, assault and obstruct police."

The rugby league community now watches as one of its respected figures prepares for his day in court. Trevor Gillmeister is scheduled to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on December 2 to answer the charges against him.
