Brisbane Broncos star Deine Mariner has undergone surgery after playing through a corked thigh in the team's loss to the Sydney Roosters on Saturday night.
Latest blow for injury-hit Broncos
The injury is the latest setback for a Brisbane side already missing key players including Payne Haas, Corey Jensen and Ben Hunt. The club is yet to determine when Mariner could return to action.
“Deine Mariner has suffered an acute compartment syndrome injury to the right thigh during last night’s match against the Roosters,” the club said in a statement on Sunday morning.
“He has been admitted to hospital in Sydney overnight and has undergone surgery this morning.”
Recovery timeline unknown
The Broncos said they will provide a further update following consultation between club medical staff and his surgeon. The severity of the condition means Mariner's return to the field remains uncertain.
