Mostert Masters Sandown in Commanding Victory
Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Chaz Mostert has blasted his way into the BP Adelaide Grand Final after a spectacular and dominant performance on Saturday at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500. The Gold Coast-based star was in a class of his own, taking control of the race from the very beginning.
Teamwork and Tyre Strategy Seal the Deal
The victory was set up from the start, with Mostert's teammate and pole-sitter Ryan Wood strategically easing off into Turn 1 to hand over the lead. Mostert was quick to acknowledge the team effort, stating after the race, "Thanks to all the fans for coming out today. I owe Woody a beer tonight, he saved my bacon out there."
Despite the strong position, the win was far from easy. Mostert admitted that managing tyre wear on the Super Soft compound over the 250-kilometre distance was a significant battle. Celebrating his third consecutive win, he described the day as "a bit of a gift" but acknowledged it was "bloody hard work." He added, "We’ll carve it up tonight and go again tomorrow."
Red Bull Ampol Racing's Stunning Charge
While Mostert's drive was the headline act, the performance of the Red Bull Ampol Racing team provided a massive subplot. Will Brown executed a stunning comeback, charging through the field from 15th on the grid to clinch an impressive second-place finish. Not to be outdone, his teammate Broc Feeney also made significant gains, climbing from seventh to fourth position.
This double charge has major implications for the championship, with both Red Bull Ampol drivers now sitting in provisional Grand Final spots, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion to the season.
