A cyclist has tragically died following a serious collision with a truck on the Pacific Highway at Bulahdelah on Monday morning, prompting major road closures and a police investigation.
Emergency Response and Fatalities
Emergency services, including a rescue helicopter, were called to the scene near Bombah Point Road just after 6am on Monday, December 22, 2025. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the cyclist, who has not yet been formally identified, was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck involved, a 58-year-old man, was taken to Manning Base Hospital in Taree for mandatory testing. His current condition has not been disclosed.
Major Traffic Disruptions and Detours
The crash caused significant disruption on the key coastal route during the holiday period. Initially, the Pacific Highway was closed in both directions. While northbound lanes have since reopened, the highway remains completely closed to southbound traffic.
Motorists are being urged to allow plenty of extra travel time. The recommended detour for all vehicles, including those up to 26-metre B-doubles, is via Bulahdelah Way.
Police Investigation Underway
Police have established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. The investigation will seek to determine the cause of the collision.
