Ex-NRL Star Wallace Unleashes Brutal Sledge Ahead of Boxing Showdown

Former NRL enforcer Jarrod Wallace has landed a stinging verbal blow on his rival Nelson Asofa-Solomona just days before their highly anticipated Easter Sunday boxing clash. The two rugby league heavyweights are set to face off in Wollongong as part of the undercard for Tim Tszyu's WBO world title bout against undefeated Middleweight Denis Nurja.

Wallace Confident Despite Underdog Status

Despite entering his professional boxing debut as the underdog against the formidable Asofa-Solomona, Wallace displayed remarkable confidence during pre-fight interviews. The former rugby league star didn't hold back when discussing his opponent's departure from the Melbourne Storm club.

"He is big, he's powerful, I've got respect for him, but there are plenty of flaws," Wallace declared. "Craig Bellamy has seen it and that's why they sacked him."

When journalists pressed Asofa-Solomona for a response to Wallace's pointed remarks, the former Storm premiership winner simply smiled and offered a terse "no comment."

Previous Encounter Adds Fuel to Fire

This isn't the first time these two athletes have exchanged blows in the ring. Back in late 2023, they participated in an exhibition bout that ended dramatically when Wallace's corner threw in the towel. The stoppage came after Asofa-Solomona sent Wallace to the canvas with a powerful uppercut followed by a glancing right hand.

Since leaving the Melbourne Storm at the conclusion of last season, dual premiership winner Asofa-Solomona has committed himself fully to boxing. He launched his professional career impressively with a knockout victory over former Dragons forward Jeremy Latimore.

Both Fighters Promise Explosive Action

Asofa-Solomona remains supremely confident about the upcoming bout, predicting a spectacular finish. "It's going to be a demolition job," he asserted. "I really feel once he feels that 10 ounce glove he is going to get the shock of his life. I guarantee it's going to be a highlight reel finish."

Wallace, undeterred by his previous defeat, has promised to take the fight into deeper waters while positioning himself as the crowd favourite. "I think everyone would love to see me go in and knock him out," Wallace said. "I'm going to get him in deep waters, get him in deep rounds and throw. We're just going to throw bombs at each other. That's what everyone wants to see and that's what heavyweights do."

Stacked Fight Card Promises Entertainment

The Wallace-Asofa-Solomona bout forms part of an exciting fight card that includes multiple compelling matchups. Australian super bantamweight Sam Goodman will seek a crucial victory over Rodrigo Ruiz in an IBF World Title eliminator bout. Meanwhile, Tokyo Olympian Paulo Aokuso aims to secure his tenth professional win when he faces Kittipong Jian Hao Ho.

With both former NRL stars promising an all-out war and plenty of verbal sparring already taking place, the Easter Sunday event in Wollongong is shaping up to be an unforgettable night of boxing action that blends sporting codes and personal rivalries.
