Australia Secures Commanding 10-Wicket Victory Over India in WACA Test
Australia has delivered a resounding performance, cruising to a comfortable 10-wicket win in the day-night Test match against India at the WACA Ground in Perth. The victory, however, did not include a fairytale batting farewell for retiring cricket legend Alyssa Healy, who ended her illustrious career on a high note with the team's success.
India's Resistance Falls Short on Third Day
The tourists managed to extend the contest into a fourth innings by adding 44 runs at the start of the third day, but were eventually bowled out for 149. This set a modest victory target of just 25 runs for Australia. Despite hopes from teammates and fans, captain Alyssa Healy did not promote herself up the batting order for one final appearance.
Openers Georgia Voll and Phoebe Litchfield efficiently polished off the required runs inside five overs, with Voll finishing 16 not out and Litchfield 11 not out. After the win, Healy was honored by long-time teammates Ellyse Perry and Ash Gardner, who chaired her to a tribute painted on the WACA surface in her honor.
Annabel Sutherland Shines as Player of the Match and Series
All-rounder Annabel Sutherland claimed player of the match honors for her outstanding performance, scoring a chanceless 129 runs with the bat and taking six wickets with the ball. She was also named player of the series, highlighting her pivotal role in Australia's success.
The Test victory secured a comprehensive 12-4 win for Australia in the multi-format series. The team recovered from a 2-1 loss in the T20 leg by sweeping the three One-Day Internationals and clinching the pink-ball Test in Perth.
India's Batting Efforts and Key Moments
India's batting saw a partnership between debutant No.3 Pratika Rawal and Sneh Rana that continued from the second night into the morning session. Rawal cut Alana King for a single to bring up her first Test half-century, while Rana swept the same bowler to the boundary, ensuring Australia would need to bat again.
Rana had two reprieves in her innings, with Sutherland missing a tough one-handed chance at second slip on 19, and Beth Mooney denied a stumping opportunity on 28 due to extra bounce from Gardner. However, Gardner bowled Rana for 30 with a perfect off-spinner the very next delivery.
Alana King, who struggled with cramp on the first day, delivered a leg-spinning clinic on day three. After repeatedly beating the bat, she dismissed Kashvee Gautam for a duck, caught by Healy at slip, and induced Sayali Satghare to offer a catch to Voll at silly point for three runs.
Rawal was the last batter to fall for a fluent 63, caught by Sutherland at fine-leg off Gardner's bowling. Hopes for Healy to bat at No.4 were briefly raised when Voll was initially given out lbw to debutant fast bowler Satghare, but the decision was overturned on review due to ball-tracking showing the delivery would have missed leg stump.
Litchfield offered a catching chance on nine, but India's captain Harmanpreet Kaur could not hold on to a difficult opportunity running back at mid-off. Voll ended the contest with three consecutive boundaries, sealing Australia's dominant win.
This match not only highlighted Australia's cricketing prowess but also marked the end of an era with Alyssa Healy's retirement, celebrated by teammates and fans alike in a fitting tribute at the WACA Ground.
