Audrey Nuna Set to Deliver Unforgettable Opening at Women's Asian Cup

Audrey Nuna, the acclaimed vocalist from the global phenomenon K-Pop Demon Hunters, is poised to kick off the Women's Asian Cup with a spectacular performance at Perth Stadium on March 1. This marks her debut in Perth, where she aims to celebrate the rich diversity of Australia and Asia through her art.

From Golden Globes to the Pitch: A Star's Journey

While Audrey Nuna might not be a household name for everyone, her character Mira from the award-winning film K-Pop Demon Hunters has captured hearts worldwide. The American-born singer and rapper, who provides the singing voice for Mira, is known for the mega-hit Golden, which achieved five-time Platinum status in Australia and topped charts in over 30 countries.

"I'm very grateful to be here, it's my first time in Perth, and I feel honoured to open this tournament and the Asian Cup," Nuna expressed. She added, "I really love how chill it is, and I'm very excited to see some quokkas. The people here are so quirky once you get past a certain level, and I really resonate with that."

Embracing Sport with Confidence and Healing

Despite admitting this is her first venture into the sports world, Nuna eagerly accepted the opportunity. "I have horrible memories of gym class where I could not kick a ball for the life of me, and that's why I respect athletes so much," she shared. She sees this performance as a healing moment for her inner child, stating, "It takes confidence and boldness to be a performer or athlete, and this performance will be healing for my inner child who got picked last in gym class, so shout out to her."

Reflecting on the themes of the tournament, Nuna noted, "I think that the success of K-Pop Demon Hunters, a film that celebrates not just Asian culture but Korean culture, has been such a redemptive year of underdogs coming to the forefront and reclaiming themselves. Even the theme of this tournament, dreaming hard, and female grit, is something that just resonates with my story and where I find myself and how crazy this past year has been."

Promoting Unity and Joy in Turbulent Times

While keeping details of her Sunday performance under wraps, Nuna emphasized her hope that the event will foster unity amid global instability. "I think the purpose of why we do what we do as artists, what Bad Bunny did at the Super Bowl was such a needed message, that idea of joy as a militant force," she explained. "I think all around that's the energy we're bringing this year of more unity, bringing diverse people together and not just coexist but thrive and find joy together, and that's what the Opening Ceremony performance will be based on, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it."

She concluded with a heartfelt message: "My hope is for any person to find what it is that makes them feel alive, whether that's football or the dancer or my drummer, and I love that about sport is that the energy is so raw and you feel it in your body, and it's the crazy thing about sports and being a performer."

The Opening Ceremony will also feature Australian powerhouse ZIPPORAH, who will debut the Official Tournament Anthem That's How We Win live, adding to the celebratory atmosphere of this major sporting event.
