The Geelong cross country community is in mourning following the passing of Pattie Galvin, a beloved club stalwart and inspirational marathon runner who dedicated decades to the sport and the local club.
A Life of Dedication to Running
Pattie Galvin, a long-time member of the Geelong Cross Country Club, was remembered by friends and fellow runners as a selfless individual who always put others first. She was not only a talented athlete but also a mentor and volunteer who helped shape the club into what it is today.
Galvin's passion for running began in her youth, and she went on to compete in numerous marathons, including the Boston Marathon. Her determination and positive attitude inspired many, both on and off the track.
Community Tributes
Club president John Smith described Galvin as the "heart and soul" of the club. "Pattie was always there to encourage new runners, volunteer at events, and share her love for the sport. She will be deeply missed," he said.
Fellow runner and friend Sarah Johnson recalled Galvin's generosity. "She would often drive others to races, offer advice, and celebrate everyone's achievements. She was a true ambassador for cross country running."
