Olympic swimming champion Ariarne Titmus is swapping the pool for the commentary box, joining Seven's coverage of the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The golden girl of Australian swimming will bring her expert insight to viewers as she takes on a new role as a reporter on the pool deck, interviewing athletes fresh from their races.
A New Chapter for Titmus
“I’m so excited,” Titmus said on Channel 7’s Sunrise. “It’s going to be great to be on pool deck. It’s actually my first international meet where I’ll be on pool deck cheering, but also speaking to the athletes after their races. So I’m really looking forward to it.”
Sunrise host Nat Barr could not resist the chance to rib Titmus about the TV role, which will be somewhat luxurious compared to the high-pressured scenario she is used to when competing.
“You’ll be sitting there relaxed, your hair will be blow dried, you won’t be dripping, you know ... and you get to ask them the questions now,” Barr said. Titmus grinned. “I know, the pressure’s off. No need to win anymore,” she said with a smile.
“I said to a few of the guys, there’s no worse looking person than a swimmer post-race, goggle marks, wet hair, puffing. And now I’m on the other side, so I’m feeling good about that.”
From Gold Medals to Microphone
Titmus, 25, has delivered some of Australia’s most memorable sporting moments on the world stage, collecting four Olympic gold medals across the Tokyo and Paris Olympics, as well as three silvers and a bronze, on top of her seven Commonwealth Games gold medals. Now, she will bring her unmatched insight, experience and athlete-first perspective to Seven’s coverage as the network’s swimming mixed zone reporter, where she will speak directly with Australian swimmers moments after they leave the water.
Asked how she felt about the pool-side role, Titmus said: “Hopefully I don’t get the itch to jump in.” She added: “But no, honestly, I’m really content in my life and I’m actually feeling quite passionate about having this role, giving the athletes the opportunity to tell their stories. They’re going to see a familiar face, but more than anything, I’m a swimming fan. And so I feel really pumped that I’m going to be right there on pool deck getting to cheer our Aussies on.”
Giving Back to the Sport
Titmus said swimming had given her so much, and she was looking forward to being part of the Australian team’s journey in a slightly different way this time around. “During my career, I had so much respect for the mixed zone reporters that we regularly met with post-race, including Nathan Templeton, Giaan Rooney and so many more. To have the opportunity to follow in their footsteps for such an important international event is very exciting,” she said in a statement.
“The Commonwealth Games mean so much to the athletes competing and I cannot wait to be on deck to deliver more incredible historic moments from the pool, live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport.”
As part of Seven’s comprehensive coverage, Titmus will also lead key behind-the-scenes athlete interviews to be broadcast throughout the Games coverage, sitting down with many of her former Australian swimming team teammates.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will be broadcast live, free and exclusively on Seven and 7plus Sport from Friday, July 24, to Monday, August 3.
