Geelong West Football Club is on the hunt for a new senior coach after Scott Frangos announced his resignation following a highly successful four-year tenure. Frangos, who led the club to multiple finals appearances, has stepped down citing personal reasons.
A Stellar Coaching Career
Frangos took the reins at Geelong West in 2020 and quickly transformed the team into a powerhouse. Under his leadership, the club made the finals in each of his four seasons, including a grand final appearance in 2023. His winning record of over 70% is a testament to his coaching acumen and ability to inspire his players.
Club president Mark Johnson paid tribute to Frangos, saying, "Scott has been an outstanding coach and leader for our club. His dedication and passion have been instrumental in our recent success. We are sad to see him go but fully respect his decision."
Impact on the Club
During Frangos' tenure, Geelong West not only achieved on-field success but also saw significant growth off the field. Membership numbers increased, and the club's junior development program flourished. Frangos was known for his emphasis on player welfare and community engagement, which helped foster a strong club culture.
Players have expressed their gratitude for Frangos' guidance. Midfielder Jack Thompson said, "Scotty changed the culture of this club. He taught us to believe in ourselves and each other. We'll miss him as a coach but even more as a person."
Search for a New Coach
The club has already begun the search for Frangos' replacement. A selection panel has been formed, and applications are being accepted. The club is looking for a candidate who can build on Frangos' legacy and continue the club's upward trajectory.
Johnson added, "We have big shoes to fill, but we are confident we will find the right person to lead our club forward. We thank Scott for everything and wish him all the best."
Frangos' Future Plans
Frangos has not announced his future plans but indicated he intends to take a break from coaching to spend more time with his family. He leaves the club in a strong position, with a talented and youthful squad poised for continued success.
In a statement, Frangos said, "Coaching Geelong West has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I am proud of what we have achieved together. The time is right for me to step away, and I look forward to watching the club's future success from the sidelines."
