Former Fremantle Dockers Player Ryan Crowley Pleads Not Guilty to Domestic Violence Charges
Former Fremantle Dockers AFL player Ryan Crowley has entered a plea of not guilty to a series of serious domestic violence charges. The 42-year-old is facing allegations of repeatedly attacking his ex-girlfriend, Lauren Dunn, a former Married at First Sight contestant who has since become an advocate against domestic violence.
Allegations Span Multiple Years and Locations
The accusations against Crowley span from 2019 to 2025, with incidents reported to have occurred in the Perth suburbs of Cottesloe, Claremont, and West Leederville. According to court proceedings, one witness described Crowley assaulting Dunn to the point of nearly killing her, highlighting the severity of the alleged attacks.
During a recent appearance at Perth Magistrates Court, Crowley pleaded not guilty to 13 charges. Initially facing 16 counts, three were dropped prior to the hearing. Among the charges is a new count of being armed or pretending to be armed in a manner that could cause fear, which the magistrate indicated involved a large kitchen knife.
Details of the Alleged Assaults
The magistrate detailed that the alleged assaults included throttling and using an aid to partially block Dunn's nose and mouth. These claims paint a disturbing picture of the violence Crowley is accused of perpetrating over several years.
Crowley's bail has been renewed, with his next court date set for April 14 to allocate a trial date. He spent time in custody last year but was released on bail after his lawyer argued that he struggled to manage his diabetes while in remand.
Bail Conditions and Relationship Background
Strict bail conditions have been imposed on Crowley, including prohibitions against contacting or approaching within 200 meters of Lauren Dunn and any witnesses. The court previously heard that Dunn described their long-term relationship as toxic and highly volatile, leading her to flee to New South Wales.
Ryan Crowley played 188 games for the Fremantle Dockers between 2005 and 2014, making his fall from grace a significant story in the sports community. The case continues to unfold as the legal process moves forward, with the trial expected to shed more light on the allegations.
