There are grave fears for a driver who is in a critical condition following a serious truck crash that has forced the closure of a major road in south-east Queensland.
Crash Details
The incident occurred on the Toowoomba Bypass Road in Ballard, north of Toowoomba, around 12:10 a.m. on Wednesday. Two trucks collided, resulting in one of the vehicles bursting into flames.
A spokesperson for the Queensland Fire Department confirmed that three fire crews were dispatched to the scene. Emergency services had to extricate one person from the wreckage using cutting equipment.
Injuries and Response
Paramedics treated one driver for critical, traumatic injuries, describing the condition as life-threatening. The other driver involved in the crash was uninjured and declined to be taken to hospital.
Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by approximately 3:45 a.m.
Road Closure and Diversions
Police have closed the road to all traffic between Charlton and Helidon, with motorists advised to expect significant delays.
“The Toowoomba Bypass eastbound lanes have been closed and are expected to remain closed for several hours,” police said in a statement. “Officers are appealing to anyone with relevant dashcam footage to contact police.”
Diversions have been established for drivers traveling eastbound towards Helidon.
Authorities urge drivers to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
