Racing enthusiasts are set for a thrilling Saturday at Randwick, with a full 10-race card offering competitive fields across various distances and conditions. Our expert analysis provides insights and selections for each race, highlighting key runners and betting strategies.
Race 1: Elite Sand and Soil Handicap (1400m)
Rumdabar (2) is poised to strike in this wide-open juvenile event. After a disappointing Randwick debut, the colt rebounded impressively with a dominant victory on a heavy track at Newcastle two weeks ago. Bred to appreciate longer distances, he should be hard to hold off if he settles just off the pace. Woodenbridge (10) deserves forgiveness for a poor run last time at Kensington, where she was never in the race despite being well-supported. Solid on a soft 6 first-up, she has a better draw and blinkers on, with an in-form apprentice claiming. Defensemen (3) held his ground first-up at Canterbury nearly a month ago, though a heavy track is a minor concern. Gold Globe (5) is an interesting first-up runner at 1400m after two handy runs in good company last preparation.
How to play it: Rumdabar WIN.
Race 2: TAB Highway Plate (1600m)
Moon Sweeper (1) is the clear standout despite a six-week gap since his runaway Highway win at Rosehill on heavy ground. Dropping 1.5kg after the claim for an apprentice who knows him, he draws well and is the horse to beat. Red Rags To Bulls (7) continues to race well without a favourable setup and is worse off at the weights compared to Moon Sweeper, but remains a logical danger. Release Point (3) charged at the line to run third behind Portofino at Rosehill two weeks ago, possibly aided by a better part of the track. He is yet to race on heavy but appears to handle it. Concoction (2) loomed to win his Highway at Rosehill a month ago before being outgunned late; the claim helps his chances.
How to play it: Moon Sweeper WIN.
Race 3: Midway Handicap (1600m)
Perfect Justice (3) is bursting to win one of these races. Although he had his chance over this track and distance last time, the return of blinkers may provide the edge needed. The heavy track should offset his need for more ground. Forecaster (5) led and held on for third in the same race, boasting a heavy track win and appreciating give in the ground. Murphilly (7) is enjoying a handy preparation with two wins from three runs back, looking strong at the mile at Gosford last time. The Mona Lisa (17) enjoyed a perfect run to beat Perfect Justice last time but faces a wider gate and an unproven heavy track.
How to play it: Perfect Justice WIN.
Race 4: Cactus Imaging Handicap (1100m)
Benevac (1) has been ambushed when looking the winner at his past two starts and deserves another chance. He ran well on heavy first-up, draws softer, and has the claim, making him a major hope. Zoufame (4) steps straight to Saturday grade after a dominant maiden win at Warwick Farm, though his heavy track ability is unknown. Jarrito (7) cruised home when resuming in midweek company then was close up in the same race as Benevac, but most of her breed are not wet trackers. Escargoes (5) rises in class after two confidence-boosting home track wins, including one on a soft 7, and has placed on heavy.
How to play it: Benevac WIN.
Race 5: Asahi Super Dry Handicap (1800m)
All Kinds Of Folk (5) brings Brisbane midweek form to Sydney, but her ace is the heavy track. She revelled in it to win first-up and should have won last time at Doomben. Down in the weights in conditions she likes, she gets her chance. Horizons (9) is working up to a win and gave a good sight in front over this track and distance three weeks ago, handling a heavy track at Newcastle. Tambeloa (3) showed positive signs running fourth in a Midway off a five-week gap and gets down in the weights after the claim. Sacrify (1) was fair on a Rosehill heavy two starts back then won on a soft track over 1800m two weeks ago.
How to play it: All Kinds Of Folk WIN.
Race 6: Kieran Moore Handicap (1000m)
Petticoat (3) has an imposing record at this track and distance and was far from disgraced when finding Ice Kool just too strong last time. Staying down in the weights with the claim, she races on the speed and handles all conditions. Prima Bella (4) is arguably the best wet tracker in the race, with three of five wins on heavy ground. She took on Ice Kool last time but didn't make an impression on a soft 5, though she is a heavy track winner first-up. Zouripper (7) charged into second at Rosehill at his second run for the new stable and is a heavy track winner, albeit inconsistent. Sociable (9) is racing well without winning, drops 6kg after the claim, and draws to get cover.
How to play it: Petticoat WIN.
Race 7: Precise Air Handicap (1800m)
Boniface (9) ran well first-up on a wet track in Melbourne and his first Sydney run was promising, running a close second with good sectionals. From a wider gate and fitter, he can turn the tables on Tazima. Tazima (4) has a 2kg weight turnaround against him for winning that race, but he is in super form and was a heavy track Randwick winner two runs ago. Williamsburg (1) showed a return to form with a solid fourth behind Midnight Dynamite in the Civic, and his heavy track form reads well for a BM88. Sly Boots (11) hit the line well late after a tough run into fourth in the Tazima race, though he struggled on a Caulfield heavy two runs back.
How to play it: Boniface WIN.
Race 8: Robrick Lodge Eremein Handicap (1600m)
Seven's (8) finds the right race to revert to racing on speed after being eased out the back from a wide gate at Rosehill and running on into fifth. He sat on speed in all three previous runs this time in and is unbeaten on heavy ground. Cold Brew (3) is an up-and-comer who won second-up in a Midway and has no issues with a wet track, though this is his first Randwick wet track. I've Bean Tryin' (13) has four of eight wins on heavy tracks and was not bad at Hawkesbury last time, down in weight. Concordia Wind (11) pounced at the right time to break through at Warwick Farm over the mile third-up and won her only heavy track attempt on debut.
How to play it: Seven's WIN.
Race 9: Toyota Forklifts Handicap (1400m)
Lugh (2) looks nicely placed second-up after a pleasing return in a stronger race won by Cool Jakey. He is a proven Randwick heavy tracker and unbeaten second-up, with the ability to put himself on pace. Narbold (13) blew the start at Rosehill two weeks ago but hit the line well, and his form around Formal Display is good on wet tracks. Emirate (9) has found a new lease on life with back-to-back wins at Rosehill over 1500m, including a heavy track win on debut. Mickey's Medal (10) showed improvement second-up when close up behind Emirate, though up in weight and drawn wide.
How to play it: Lugh WIN.
Race 10: TAB Handicap (1400m)
Swiftie Harriet (2) has been excellent in two Sydney runs, making Surf's Up work to catch her at the end of 1400m at Rosehill two weeks ago. This race is no harder, though wetter, and she is drawn to be wherever needed. Hurry Miss (10) was an eye-catcher in her return in a strong Highway, storming home from far back to run third. She likes give in the ground, up in distance and down in weight. Nandina (14) has a heavy track second to Hello Captain and ran an even race against her own age last time. Bella Corazon (4) beat Swiftie Harriet two starts back but is 2kg worse off without a claim this time. Aye Aye Captain (3) was excellent in third in the same race but a testing heavy is likely against her.
How to play it: Swiftie Harriet WIN.
