Perth Man Alan Kiplimo Extradited to South Australia Over Alleged Murder of Adelaide Chef Caleb Leriano

Alan Kiplimo, a 22-year-old Perth man, is being extradited to South Australia to face murder charges in connection with the death of Adelaide chef Caleb Leriano, aged 24. The extradition follows a court hearing in Perth where Magistrate Belinda Coleman granted the request from South Australian detectives.

Arrest and Extradition Proceedings

Kiplimo was arrested on Friday by South Australia major crime detectives, with assistance from the WA Police homicide squad. He appeared at Perth Magistrate Court later that same day, where the extradition warrant was presented. Magistrate Coleman noted that Kiplimo had only a brief discussion with a duty lawyer before the proceedings.

During the hearing, Kiplimo watched from behind security glass, flanked by guards, and did not appear overly concerned. Details of the murder charge were not read to him, and he was not required to enter a plea. He is scheduled to be flown to South Australia on Saturday and will face a magistrates court there on the next sitting day.

Details of the Alleged Crime

Caleb Leriano was found dead in the Adelaide suburb of Morphett Vale on Wednesday. Initially, his death was suspected to be linked to a car crash after his red 2003 BMW sedan crashed into a power pole around 1:30 am. However, police later revealed that his life-threatening injuries resulted from an alleged assault prior to the crash.

Leriano was the sole occupant of the car and died at the scene. South Australia Police stated that he drove his BMW to the vicinity of Saphire Reserve for a planned meeting early Wednesday before being found injured inside his vehicle. The reason for that meeting and what occurred is currently under investigation, according to authorities.

Victim's Background and Family Response

Caleb Leriano, described by his father Mike as a jovial young man from Kenya who was pursuing his Australian dream, was a chef in Adelaide. His father expressed grief, saying, I love him and I miss him, in an interview with 7NEWS. The case has drawn attention due to the tragic circumstances surrounding his death and the interstate extradition involved.

Kiplimo, from the north-eastern Perth suburb of Brabham, is now at the center of this high-profile investigation. The collaboration between WA and SA police highlights the seriousness of the allegations, with the extradition marking a key step in the legal process.
