Helmetless Rider Leads Police to Alleged Drug Dealer

An alleged drug dealer in Canberra was apprehended after police noticed a man riding a motorcycle without a helmet. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when officers from the ACT Policing observed the helmetless rider in the suburb of Kambah.

Police Investigation

The officers attempted to stop the motorcycle, but the rider fled, leading them on a brief pursuit. The rider eventually abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot, but was quickly apprehended by police. During the chase, officers noticed a bag being discarded by the rider.

Discovery of Drugs

Upon retrieving the bag, police discovered a significant quantity of illicit substances, including methylamphetamine and cannabis, along with cash and drug paraphernalia. The items were seized as evidence.

The rider, a 32-year-old man from Kambah, was taken into custody. He was later charged with multiple offences, including trafficking in a controlled drug, possession of a controlled drug, and riding a motorcycle without a helmet.

Court Appearance

The man appeared before the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday, where he was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to reappear in court later this month.

Police have reminded the public of the importance of wearing helmets while riding motorcycles, as it is not only a legal requirement but also a critical safety measure. They also encouraged anyone with information about drug-related activities to come forward.
