The Townsville Magistrates Court will hear a wide range of matters on Friday, April 24, 2025, with dozens of defendants scheduled to appear before Magistrate Stephen Guttridge. The list includes charges ranging from traffic offences and drug possession to assault and fraud.
Morning Session
The court will commence at 9:30 AM with bail applications and mentions. Among those appearing is John Smith, 34, charged with one count of stealing from a motor vehicle and two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia. Smith is expected to apply for bail, with police opposing due to his criminal history.
Also listed is Mary Jones, 28, facing charges of common assault and wilful damage following an incident at a local shopping centre on March 15. Her matter is likely to be adjourned for a mental health assessment.
Traffic Offences
Several drivers will face court for traffic-related matters. David Brown, 45, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol (BAC 0.152) and driving while disqualified. He was stopped on Flinders Street on April 10. The prosecution will seek a term of imprisonment due to his prior convictions.
Emma Wilson, 22, will plead guilty to speeding (over 40 km/h above the limit) and failing to display P plates. She faces a fine and possible licence suspension.
Afternoon Session
The afternoon list from 2:00 PM includes more serious offences. Robert Taylor, 39, is charged with two counts of supplying a dangerous drug (methylamphetamine) and one count of possessing proceeds of crime. The matter is expected to be committed to the District Court.
Lisa Chen, 41, will face sentencing for fraud offences involving $15,000 in false insurance claims. Her lawyer will argue for a wholly suspended sentence due to her early guilty plea and efforts at restitution.
Domestic Violence Matters
Three defendants are listed for breaches of domestic violence orders. Michael White, 52, allegedly contacted the aggrieved via text message on multiple occasions. He remains in custody and will apply for bail.
Sarah Green, 33, is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm against her partner. The court will hear evidence from the complainant via CCTV link.
The full list of defendants and outcomes will be published on the Queensland Courts website after the hearings. The public is reminded that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
